I have a Windows Media Player file, a ".asf" file, its a whole movie, not a stream, my question is, how can i make that a .mov, or anything else, but please, i don't want to be forced to use Windos Media Player, anyone knows how can i do this?

Thanks in advance

MS is keeping a tight rein on their streaming formats. You can make .asf files from Quicktime with Cleaner (very expensive app) but no known way to go the other direction, at least not in MacOS.

as said, cleaner can convert most things TO asf, wmv, rm, but not FROM.

I've written a short piece about this here. To sum it up, there are a few options for Windows that don't even require re-encoding the video, depending on the specifics of your asf, and there's one app for OS 9 that works (barely) by re-encoding whatever your WMP for OS 9 can play.
