How to extract audio from quicktime?

This may have been covered but a search revealed nothing.

I have the Lord of the Rings Trailers and I would like to extract the audio from them but those functions are crippled. Is there any way to do it using other software?

The LOTR trailers are somehow blocked from saving audio tracks from them somehow. I know it's a quicktime feature, but how do I bypass it?

I want the audio extracted so I can burn it onto a CD.
Any help is appreciated.

iToons can convert quicktime movies. just drop them onto itoons and find the convert function in the Advanced menu (I think; I haven't used itoons since version 2). I recommend you set it to aiff (instead of mp3) in the prefferences first, if you're going to burn an audio cd

If the files are truly locked, quicktime might not let itunes re-encode them. you might find an app on versiontracker to record your mac's audio straight to disk, but that might be more lossy than the itunes way

Do you mean iTUNES? If so, then... no it doesn't work.

Are there any utilities in Classic (or OS9) that can record the music from any internal source?

Snapz Pro can record Mac audio to disk. It is OS 9 only I believe. Don't know for sure.

You can find it at VersionTracker.

I tried Snapz Pro for getting the audio with the frame rate at 1 fps. It was ok, but only recorded in 8 bits.

C'mon people, how does one hack the LOTR trailers to extract the audio? There has to be a way. Res Edit?

Are there any other programs that I can import a quicktime movie into then extract the audio? iMovie maybe? iDVD?

well, for one thing, Apple designed a copy-protection mechanism into quicktime, and Apple also wrote all the apps you've mentioned (besides Snapz Pro). I highly doubt an iApp (or resEdit) will help you break quicktime's copy protection code. And since the quicktime framework is so outstanding otherwise, few if any 3rd party apps are going to read the quicktime format without using the quicktime framework. On Windows, there are a number of apps that help you free your content from the quicktime format, and any of those might be able to break the copy-protection.

maybe these will be better than Snapz (which is pimarily a screencap utility)

Could Audio Hijack be the answer?

Audio Hijack worked great for me! Thanks Mr Heliums. I've been trying to pull a sound effect off a QT video for months. This app did it in seconds.
