Does anyone have anyting good or bad to say about the Canon GL2? I am in the market for a high end camera that is excelent in low light situations.

I need it to shoot mountain bike videos in the woods where daylight is sparce due to the heavy foilage. Is this camera overkill or just what I need? I have used a relitivley low end Panasonic and a low end Canon ZR40. Quality is very poor in low light.

Any other camera recomendations in this price range or lower?????

All thoughts and comments are greatly apreciated.

Thanks...

i have the GL1 and it's only so-so in very low light situations. the quality in general is excellent, but the few times i've shot at night without a camera light (using street lights for illumination), it was understandably dark and grainy.

apparently the GL2 has a minimum illumination rating of
6 lux (according to: http://www.canondv.com/gl2/s.html). the nightvision canon cams are rated at 0.5 lux. and the XL1 is 2 lux.

i don't think you'll be as troubled as i was if you're still shooting in the daytime (even with heavy foilage cover). i'd shoot some test footage for ya, but it's raining, and i'd have to found a place with some heavy foilage for testing.

Thanks for your kindness, but I cannot accept. its going way out of your way...

There is one at my local apple store. i would like to play with it a bit, too bad its really bright in there and the flourecent lights are nothing like the splatters of sun in the forrest!

Thanks for the input!
