Is there anything like the Windows 98 Streambox VCR for the Mac? Our internet connection, while being broadband cable, doesn't play RealOne Player streams continuosly. RealOne Player buffers about every 45 seconds or so and it's annoying. The image and sound is really clear when it is playing but I'd like to download the stream and play it straight through without interuption.
It may be that this is more a problem of the RealOne Player for Mac but there are a few sites that offer streaming video content that I want to view. It'd be great to be able to download other streaming formats too because I find content gets taken off sites regularily to make room for new streams.

Be sure your Connection Speed preference in RealOne Player is set high enough for your broadband connection. This helps to avoid unneeded buffering after the clip begins playing.

StreamRipperX rips source radio streams as individual MP3 files.
I don't want to get music. I need something that I can get video/audio from RealOnePlayer and Windows Media Player files. I guess what it boils down to is that I would like to be able to record video streams the way that you would tape something from your television with a VCR. There is a program from Ambrosia that records what's going on your computer but I would have to edit the files to remove the stalls that happen while it's buffering. I figure just getting the stream file source would make the most sense.
I know that there are sites that do not want you to have the source, and I respect that. The sites that I want to view the content of would likely not have that concern because their material is educational.

Have you tried to right click [contro+click for one button mouse] the link and save as to your hardrive? That is a way to find out if they don't want you to have their source, as it will be disabled. I have found that I can save some files. I used to think that you could tell by the extension of the real media file, but in the past I have been able to d/l both .ram and .rm files.
Worth a shot anyways.

I tried opening up a Windows Media Player file link in Word and and got a http address. I thought I hit the jackpot but what downloaded was a 4 KB file. Surely the address of where that original file resides must be identified by the computer somehow. How would it know to send the stream to my computer otherwise? I'll try a RealOnePlayer file tonight when I get home to see if I can get any further than this.
