I've been trying to import some stills into iMovie. When I do File > Import > Show All Importable Files, and navigate to the folder containing the images I want, they are grayed out. In other folders, some are grayed out and some aren't. All are either .jpg or .pdf. I can't figure out any meaningful distinction between the ones that are grayed out and the ones that aren't.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Flat-screen iMac, OS 10.1.5, iMovie2.

OK - turns out that iMovie2 for OS X can't import certain jpg's if they are lacking certain creator codes, even if the files already have .jpg in the name. Here's the official advisory:

The workaround is to open the files in Preview, then re-format them via the Export command. I assume that this gives them the necessary creator code. But it means I have to reformat hundreds of photos by hand. Terrific.

on versiontracker you should be able to find about a dozen utilities to edit type and/or creator codes. I think at least one of them is solely for deleting the codes, and you should be able to just drop your whole folder of images on it...
