I am thinking about getting a Canon S230 and was wondering if I will be able to export the video to my Mac? On the Canon site it lists the video format as avi and not mpeg as the salesrep told me. Does anyone own one of these cameras and can tell me if I will be able to transfer the video from the camera to my Mac?

yes, you can export the video without any problems. my s30 takes .avi files as well, and quicktime opens them without a hitch.

I have one and just shot some video--I never've done it before. Anyway, I popped the CF card into my reader and dragged the .avi onto my desktop. It played fine in QT.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. Any other thoughts on this camera? Pros/Cons?

The only con I can see is that the S45 just came out, and it is one sweet looking camera . I'm looking for a good price on it right now.

It's a great camera due to its size (and its small size is outstanding), but it's a bit lacking in the zoom (2x). I have it as a second digital camera and really love it. If you don't mind a larger camera, the Canon S30 has the same pixel amount with a 3x zoom for about $50 more.
I'd get a case for it: Canon makes a nice one (PSC-50) for about $15.

To correct my own self, I'd say go for the S230. I didn't realize when I was posting before that the S230 also has the new autofocus technology that's in the S45.
I had been researching the cameras and had come to the conclusion that the S45 was worth the extra $$ over the S30 and the S40. So my wife and I just went down to Best Buy so that we could see how the S45 felt (I was going to order one online, I just wanted to hold one first). Well, she just loves the size of the S230. I popped over to Canon's website, and found out that the S230 has the same improvements to autofocus (DIGIC/iSPAPS). Only drawbacks are 3.2MP vs 3.9MP and 2x vs 3x. The major bonus is that it will fit in your pocket! So, I just ordered one yesterday.
