I helped a friend set up a small network of PowerMacs. He's using FCP3 and wants to pull source footage off of one machine and edit it in real time on another. Bassically, he doesn't want to spend time copying it over to a machine and then editing.

So far teh network is fine but kinda slow. Any suggestions on how to speed it up? We're using 10.2.2 and 9.2.2 and gigabit ehternet on all machines (including a gigabit router). Thanks for any help.

you might try the recently released IP over firewire. but otherwise, it's as good as you can get I beleive. You need fast read/write times to edit video.
