I have a voice only recording on a cassette that I digitized to AIFF format hoping to burn an audio CD with iToons to play in the car. The audio file is under 500 MB and the recording is 89 minutes long . I was hoping that I could get it on one disk but when trying to burn a CD using iToons I get a dialog that says the file won’t fit on the CD. I guess that’s because it is over 80 minutes long. Is there no hope of getting a longer audio recording on a CD that will play in a regular CD player?

So is this just a lame question or does anyone have an idea about this? Are there CDs that will hold more than 80 minutes of audio? Why is 80 minutes the max for audio? How come the file size doesn't make a difference?

normal red book audio doesn't allow for variable bitrate, or non-standard bitrate. When you burn, your authoring software will decompress your files to make them fit the spec (44100 hz, stereo, whatever it is), which is why they're called 80 minute CDs. There are 90 minute CDs, but they don't quite fit the spec. They're very hard to burn, especially on a mac, and when you put them in any particular drive, there's a very real possibility it could damage the drive.

I didn't answer before because I was hoping someone else might actually have a solution. you know, mp3 stereos aren't all that expensive anymore...

I'm not 100% about this, but I don't think iTunes will burn more then 72 mins. to a CD... Even if the CD says 80 mins...
