I just took apart my first Aiff in Final cut and ran some filters over it... I'm hooked

it was great... but I want something that's more intuitive for Audio and has more audio distortion/adjustment ability...

looking for:

• I'm very visual... so an interface that allows me to see the sound would help.
• I would love to play with surround sound for DVD projects
• OS X native app that can run without purchasing additional hardware (to run on a Ti550)

so what are the suggestions?

Logic, Bias Deck 3.5 – capable of surround sound mixing
but you will need an audio interface that can do surround sound (5 seperate channels) to mix

Bias Peak 3–stereo waveform editor. Limited DV version comes with final cut pro.

Audacity–open sourced(free) multitrack audio editor, similar to Peak and Deck. You can probably mix durround w/ this if you have said hardware and then output the seperate channels to aif and use another program to make them Dolby Digital or DTS etc. (I think...)

All of the above can do waveform editing (visual) where you see the peaks and valleys of the sound wave. All except Logic (assuming your using os x) can use VST effects.
