After Effects 1.5GB RAM Limit

Many of you probably know that this limitation exists. My brother has 2GB RAM and in essence can't use AE5.5 without removing a stick of RAM. Is there a work around for this, or a utility by which a certain amount of RAM can be disabled for these programs, similar to the feature in OS9?
