I received a Sony DCR-TRV140 as a gift for Christmas. It seems not to work with my new Dual 1ghz G4 (OS 10.2.3). Does anyone know of any way to get this to work? Any drivers, 3rd party software, etc... that will alow this to work.
Even if it is in Classic, I just would like to be able to capture the video from it!
Thanks for any help...

Digital8 camcorders aren't compatible with iMovie unless you use a hardware converter like the Formac. Check out the iMovie compatibility page.

EnVoy,
Like you, I also got a DCR-TRV140 for Christmas. I was able to connect the camera via Firewire to my iMac 800 (Super) and save video clips without a problem. First, I opened iMovie and then I turned the camera on. In VCR mode, I was able to rewind the tape and grab the test clip I made on the camera.

digital 8 or minidv use the DV codec and should work with imovie and a firewire connection, although without it explicitly saying that it will, apple won't have to give you support or whatever.
anyways, experiment. hope you get it to work.

Apple iMovie Compatible DV Camcorder page lists this Sony DCR-TRV120 as being tested and compatible with iMovie. It is also Digital8.
I need to know if anyone here has used the Sony DCR-TRV140 which is amost the same product just newer model........
Will it import into iMovie VIA Firewire?
I do not care about the USB Webcam option....

I own a Sony DCR-TRV 240 which is not much different from the 140. I am using iMovie 3.0.2 and I own a iMac DV SE 500 Mhz. My camera is hooked up via firewire and I had some concerns whether it would work with iMovie 3, but much to my relief, it did import and export just fine. However, I need to turn on my camera and have it in the playback mode before I open iMovie in order for the program to recognize that there is a camera hooked up. The only problem I have encountered is that when using the onscreen FF/RW buttons, the camera stops sometimes and I have to use the ones on the camera top itself in order to find segments on my tapes. Have you been able to get yours to work yet?
