I have this DVD of a concert that was never released as an audio CD but I would really like to be able to listen to the songs on a CD playing, in iTunes, etc. I was wondering if there's any way to extract stereo audio from a DVD that is hopefully free. Thanks.

What I would do would be to use the application 0Sex to rip only the audio to AC3 (select the "elementary streams" option) and then convert the AC3 to AIF. I can't recall the name of the program that I use for this, but I imagine that it is available on versiontracker. Then you can use iTunes to convert the AIF file(s) to MP3.

You use Audio Hijack record sound in AIF format from any application. Look for it on version tracker.

I already tried that. Running Audio Hijack while playing the DV would cause the audio to skip and make theDVD basically unplayable. I need to find a way to extract the audio directly without having to do it in real time.

I did exactly this on my Ti667 last night to extract some audio that I wanted to send to my brother and it worked fine. Admittedly it was only a small part of the DVD (about 5 mins) and I was playing it in a small window, so maybe I was just lucky.

Like Icruise said, the best way to do it is to use 0Sex to rip the audio, and then bd4go to convert it from ac3 to aiff.
Both of them can be found on versiontracker.

Are you talking DVD-Audio? Or are you talking audio from a DVD-Video? Doing it from the latter is fine, but I wouldn't know how to do it from the former.

I still use os 9 tools which I have found to work better on my machine (400mhz G3 iMac). DVDExtractor with the appropriate audio converter (depending on the technology the DVD uses). This is not a commercial process, so you will have to expect some bumps in the road.
I have converted concert DVD to mp3's for the exact same reason as you. More recently, I converted the entire Moulin Rouge movie to mp3 so my wife could listen to it on her iPod.

waffffle, thanks for giving us a try. Decoding a DVD and ripping it takes a lot of CPU, so on older machines, it can cause skipping. To give one tip, you can try shrinking the DVD window, or closing it all together. This will save a bit of CPU, and may help.
