I've got a bin and cue file from what I assume is a windows based machine.
Toast burns the file O.K., but the DVD player recognizes it as a vcd but does not play. I have sufficiently lowred the burn speed, but still a no go.
I believe the player is looking for and MPEGAV directory?
In any event, how does one burn a bin & cue in OSX so it will work.
Thank you in advance.
PS I'm pretty sure this is an SVCD

does your DVD player play other SVCDs? I successfully burned a SVCD from a cue & bin on my windows machine using Blindwrite, but my (old) DVD player wouldn't recognize it. Tried the disc at a electronics retailer and it was fine, so I had to replace the DVD player. sorry, but don't know of any OS X software.

Just an update here. - My dvd player does support svcd.
I know there is SOMEBODY out there who takes these bin and cue files and can burn a readable SVCD disk. I would like to avoid pulling out files and re-encoding as an iso etc....
Isn't there some quick way on the Mac either OSX or even OS9 to get this bin and cue to burn properly?
Is Windows my only way out of this for "no fuss, no muss"?

I've done it two ways, and made a playable SCVD both ways. Using VCD Gear, which you can get off version tracker, convert the bin cue to an mpg file, and drop that on a Toast 5.2 (must be 5.2 I think) VCD CD. Also, you can take the bin and cue files, and use missing media burner which can be found on the link above. I had to do this once in order to overburn an svcd that was 4 seconds too long and toast just wouldnt do it. Media burner can be tricky, as you have to look online and find out which drivers to use, and then it burns your CD through the terminal. Good luck

Weezer,
This is most helpful. I tried Missing Media Burner but couldn't get the disk recognized once burned.
Anybody know what driver to use with a Pioneer DVRA03 (Apple's Superdrive)?
Thanks
Woody

Im away from my good mac now, but I seem to recall that if you choose the wrong driver, that within the terminal there is a link to a webpage that has a huge list of burners and the drivers you should use. If you cant get that to come up, I'll have it tomorrow when I get back to school (and my 933 G4 ) For now, try using both of the generic drivers. Also, did the CD actually burn, and just wasn't recognized by your dvd player? Can your computer play it? You will need apples mpeg-2 component to be able to watch your svcd within quicktime, or try opening the VCD image in VLC (never tried that with an SVCD)

Easy
If you have toast
select disk image from the other menu
drop the .bin into it and burn
If you want to check if its an svcd just mount it one of the folders inside the disk image should be called svcd
I am certain this works
Vlc will play most .bin svcds
If you want to watch it in QT on the mac. You need "GNU vcdtools". to extract the mpeg from the bin.

As stated before, Toasts mounts and burns the image. The disk is not playable on my SVCD compliant dvd home player. The mpeg file within the burned disk is playable if I navigate directly to it. After burning in Toast, Vlc will not recognice it as a SVCD.
I am positive that this is a "working" bin and cue. Only problem is Toast cannot create the proper "whatever" to make it an SVCD.

I will check in the terminal window when I get home I remember seeing the reference to it.
The cd burned, but I chose a generic which made it unrecognizable by my Mac.

The fact that it burned would make me think its a problem with either your source file or your dvd player. When I was first playing around with it, if I chose the wrong driver it wouldnt burn at all

Weezer, thanks again.
Went back and revisted MissingMediaBurner, loaded in another generic driver and the SVCD burned properly. TOAST was worthless in this regard and CANNOT burn a compliant SVCD bin and cue.
Glad I was able to do this and not have to screw around with the files.
Thanks for the suggestions.
