I have a new 15" 1GHz PowerBook, which comes with a 4200-rpm hard disk. I would like to know would that hard disk be able to capture DV from a DV camera source in PAL without skipping frames?

Also, if I have a 7200-rpm external firewire hard disk connected to the Firewire port of my PowerBook via a FireWire hub, and the DV camera also connected to my PowerBook using the same hub, would it work?

The internal drive should be fine.

I'm editing PAL DV on my TiBook at the moment. One problem I do have is with fragmentation. If I put a larger drive in I will partition it so that I can have an area I can store the clips on separate from my general computer use.
