So what I have accomplished is this:

I have copied the DVD .vob file to my hard drive using DVDBackup. And now I select that file to be encoded in ffmpegX, and select the VCD preset. I click "Encode", and then the terminal reports this error message:

**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!
Does this error mean anything?

Without stopping, it then begins encoding the audio as a .mp2 file.

After finishing encoding the audio, it immediately deletes the file, and prints out all sorts of messages that I don't understand. Here is the text, copied from the terminal:

Does anybody have any suggestions? Please don't tell me to search the forums, as I already have. That's how I've gotten this far.

UPDATE:

I think I might have figured it out. I changed some settings in the mpeg2enc options. In particular, I think the one that helped was to select "No SVCD scan". I'm not sure what that did, but it seems to work...
