I am new to disc burning. Am I right that all CD+R and CD+RW discs can record audio? Is there any advantage in purchasing the discs that specifically say "made for audio" (or something like that) or is that just marketing hype? In other words, is it safe to purchase any CR+R or CD+RW for burning audio onto?

Here's the deal with CD-R disks marked as "Audio":

If you purchase a consumer CD Audio recording device, such as stand alone Sony CD recorder, it will only work with CD-R media that is labeled for use with "Audio". That's because CD-R Audio media includes a special code on the disc detectable by these devices. If you tried to use just a regular CD-R data disc in a consumer CD recorder it would reject it. Why you ask? It's a ploy by the music industry to make an extra penny off the media used in standalone CD recordables.

Now, if you are using a computer to do your burning, then both CD-R and CD-R Audio media are exactly the same thing. You can burn music or data to either and it will still playback in any player.

Hope this helps.

Since you're new, a head's up: with a little effort, you never have to pay more than 10 cents for CD-R discs. In any given week, at least one of the big retailers (Best Buy, Staples, CompUSA, etc.) is selling 50 or 100-disc CD-R spindles for less than $10 with rebates. The last 50-disc spindle I bought was only $3.
