Can anyone tell me whether the Sony DCR TRV 240 camcorder works in iMovie and Final Cut Express?

Its a Digital8 camcorder and has dv-in/dv-out so I guess it should work. Can anyone confirm for sure?

Anyone had any experience with this model?

Yes, the TRV 240 works perfectly. I use it with Final Cut Pro, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't work with FCE.

I've taken mine on vacation and use it to shoot family events. For those sorts of things the quality is fine. I shoot a lot of sunrises and sunsets and always get compliments from viewers. Video looks good even on a 36 inch TV. I bought a wide-angle adaptor that I keep on the camera almost all the time.

The Digital 8 cameras are a little larger than Mini DV but that's not much of a problem with me.

I don't think you'll go wrong with this camera.

If you haven't bought it yet, I think you'd be a lot better off w/ a MiniDV camera (Canon, Sony, are both solid).

MiniDV has better quality and is not a dying format...

I agree. I used to have a Sony DCR TRV-510 (Digital 8). The image quality was much better on a JVC (not entired sure it was JVC) MiniDV camcorder. Also, MiniDV tapes take much less time to fast forward/rewind than Digital 8.

I would get a MiniDV but they are still way to expensive in the UK. I've now decided to get a Sony DCR TRV 140E Digital8 camera for £300.

All I want is a decent camera which I can use in iMovie and Final Cut Express that doesn't cost hundreds and hundreds of £.

Thanks though.
