I had been using iMovie 1 and 2 to record the video from my Formac Studio, but now in 3 the sound is messed up. It seems to be taking it from the wrong channels. When it is playing the video straight from the tv the audio is correct but after it is recorded it is just garbage. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, but you can get the normal audio back by extracting the audio from the bad clips. Yah this makes editing pain, but at least its a workaround.

Formac has updated their drivers for the Studio DV (and DV/TV) to address some of the issues with iMovie 3. Check them out at www.Formac.com

This is turning out to be a really bad Fomac day for me.

1 - Vidi comes out on versiontracker - it looks so much better than Formac's Software - but it doesn't work with my Tuner model (Philips FL 1246 (PAL I) FM-Radio)

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18234

[edit] wow I emailed him and he's working on adding support - that's what I call support!

2 - I look up that update and in order to get my Box updated I have to pay and pay to *send* it to America!

ARGGGGGGHHHHH! - i only bought this device a couple of months ago - how can it's firmware be already so out of date that I can't flash it through software!

My guess is that it is not flash ROM. They were probably trying to save money by not including it...

I'm sure most of you received this email, but if not here it is:

Dear Formac customer,

To serve you better in the future we would like to know how we can improve
the current software for your studio dv/tv. Too busy? Giving us a little of
your valuable time will be rewarded! Formac will raffle five FireWire Formac
cdrws among all customers that send back a filled out questionnaire until
Sunday, February 23rd. It will only take a few minutes:

1) What do you like about the software?

2) What do you not like? What do you think would make this software better?
Please mention ANYTHING that you would like to see implemented in the future
(performance, design, new features etc.).

3) How would you rate the software from 1 to 6 (1 is best, 6 is worst)

Human interface (design)
Performance
Installation
Manual

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Best regards,

Your Formac Team

Has anyone else had trouble getting the video to import properly using the formac DV? the Analogue/digital lights just flicker back and forth, and no video or audio shows up in imovie. Does this sound at all familiar?

thanks

Yep, I have that very problem; camera shows up as connected, but no video or audio on screen. Perhaps imovie 3 is the culprit?

Talked today w/ apple support, after having exchanged useless, worthless, non-responsive, patronizing "customer service" from Formac. Apple guy in the ProVideo (?) section said "Do you have another FW device plugged into your G4? Yep, well, unplug it and FCE will work." I unplugged my FW Lacie HD, and lo and behold, formac studio (not the tv version) imported perfectly into FCE, audio and video both.
