I was wondering what the normal behavior of chapters in the scene selection menu in iDVD3 is. When I make a Final Cut Pro movie with chapters and have a scene selection menu auto- generated in iDVD3 it does a nice job of creating a nice menu of 6 scenes per menu and arrows to advance to more scenes.
The question: Is the normal behavior once a scene is selected to play the scene and continue to play to the end of the movie instead of terminating at the end of the scene and returning to the selection menu?
I have double checked my markers in FCP and I have them all selected as chapter markers with defined durations and export the movie with the appropriate settings. I even checked by making a test movie in iMovie3 with chapters and it has the same behavior in which the scene selection choice will play the movie to the end instead of terminating at the end of the scene.
Is this normal or is something wrong with my set-up - if it is normal it makes the chapters in iDVD3 a little less useful.

I think that's normal. I haven't really delved into the new version of iMovie3 yet but it seems to do the same thing with Final Cut Express. Also, that's the way it normally works in released DVD versions of most motion pictures except the "extras" or deleted scenes, outtakes, etc... for example, when you select a particular scene in "Gladiator" under the scene selection menu, it will continue playing through subsequent chapters until the end of the movie.

According to this iDVD3 review this behaviour sounds about right. It looks like there are quite a few more problems with iDVD3 as mentioned in the review.

I believe you're right most DVD scene selection menu's do actually play through the scene - I could have sworn this wasn't normal behavior (seems more logical to me). The chapters are still useful as is
That review by Ken Stone is pretty good. I agree iDVD3 is a little buggy but I have yet to have any real problems with it creating DVD's.

This is how Hollywood DVDs work as well. If you want separate videos make them into separate tracks, not one long one.
