Follow up: Thanks for the suggestions. I'm a bit confused. Can programs like Bitheadz' Phrazer and SampleTank be used as stand alone samplers/playback or are they made to be used as plugins for studio-type programs? What I would really like to do is use my computer as a straight sample/loop/playback machine, much like the Akai S2000, Roland SP-808, etc.

-------------------------------------------------

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can use my 1GHz Titanium PowerBook G4 (1GB RAM) as an audio sampler using the built in audio input?

What software will allow me to sample any sound that is input into the computer, manipulate it, save it and then trigger samples using the keyboard? Is this even possible?

I had a Roland SP-808 sampler/workstation that I sold so I could buy the PowerBook for work purposes.

Can anyone help? Please email suggestions to mikills@hotmail.com

Thanks.

check out peak, an excellent app.
go to versiontracker.com and look for "sound" apps...

as far as triggering samples, check out reason, or live...both affordable, excellent programs.

there are probably shareware apps to do
this too.

i do all my sampling into peak, then play the samples in reason (but you can do alot more with reason, ie sequencing, synths etc

good luck

go with live. you can record directly into the app and trigger samples at the same time. the time stretching rules. you can use vst plugins to manipulate the audio.
