I would like to record my voice, but my built-in iMac mic is not really the best thing to use.
I know there are several USB solutions, but, as my iMac (like mots macs) has a built in external 3.5 mm stereo microphone entry, i just wanted to know if there's any chance some cheap PC-like micro would ever fit in this iMac in line entry.
And if so, what should i choose in terms of impedance, voltage, connector, noise ratio, and the like.
Thanks
Vic

i don't think you'd be able to use a regular PC mic in the input. the mic outpu will have to be amplified to line level in order to hear it through the input.
i know in the older towers like mine, the only mic you could use was a apple mic, which had a longer plug (used to power the mic). not sure how the input was for the iMacs.

imacs have standerd 3.5mm jack. a pc mike will work. you need to tell the mac in OS 9 to use line in or external mic though. i think. i'm not sure in about OS X.

sure, it's a standard 3.5mm jack, but can you just plug any old mic into it? usually, you need use a plaintalk mic, since it will be powered when you plug it in. signals from a regular non-amplified pc mic won't get through. if that's the case, and you want to use a regular pc mic, you'd have to get something like this:

Prijker, which iMac to you have?
