Poor quality (in?) out of FCE vs. iMovie

I recently started using Final Cut Express. Can someone please help me understand why the quality of my video when exported - regardless of video settings (I use highest quality video settings, etc) looks worse than when I import the same video from the same camera using iMovie.

Is there an import setting on FCE that I have set wrong? There do not seem to be many choices that I could be screwing up yet the video is poor. It looks grainy/pixel-ee, particularly motion.

I suspect it is an import setting on FCE because when I import using iMovie but edit using FCE the exported video is fine.

Check and see what audio/video settings you have set under the capture tab.

I use FCP, but i'm sure that these settings should be similar. Check the following site out and follow it's instructions on creating your setup:
