I have a PowerBook with a 10 GB drive, which doesn't allow me much room for important video. Is there a way I can get iMovie to import to an external FW drive rather than my internal hard drive?

yeah. when you create a new movie project, name it, and pick the 'save' location as your fw hd. then, when you import, it should save the dv to the fw hd.

Also, are the files that are imported ruined if they are placed onto a FAT 32 drive?

i wouldn't think so, a .dv file is a .dv file, right? no matter what the file is saved to.
