I've been watching some cool streaming videos on the net and was wondering if it was possible to copy them over to my hard drive (I'm using QuickTime of course). Thanks!

You could try ScreenRecord to make a movie of the screen section that the media is displayed on.

I don't think there is a good solution to this. The only one I know of that would work reliably is if you have a PowerBook you can set the video to play on a TV screen then you could record it with a VCR.

I have seen people mention the idea of using a screen capture program and I haven't tried it but I am skeptical. I use one occasionally but I don't think it would work well to capture a movie. You also have the problem of capturing sound in sync with the screen capture.

Good luck.

Use Snapz Pro X with the built in Audio Capture, you'll need a speedy rig for the time being though, although moki put some videos up on his forum that showed a new version of Snapz he has in the works that get's 4-5 times the framerates!

I am experimenting with another technique. I play the movie on a PowerBook. I have QT Pro and I set the movie to present full screen on the second monitor. The second monitor is actually an S-video cable running to a Formac Studio which is connected to my G4.

It is kind of odd but I can see my PowerBook desktop show up as a window on the G4.

With this setup I will use Vidi to record the video as DV then compress it to a much smaller file with QT.

Really more of a science project than a convient method.
