I'm looking eventually to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 3. I have vs. 2 but am also looking to upgrade my mac. With the new systems unable to boot into 9 will I be stuck with having to buy the full vs. of 3? Or could I load 2 onto the new system and install the 3 upgrade without 9? Worse case scenario can I just Target disc copy FCP3 from my old computer onto the new?

thanks,
matt

You only need to have a serialized copy of FCP2 and the ability to start up classic. When you run the upgrade to FCP3 for OSX it requires you to start up classic and the installer must check to see if you have a running copy of FCP2, it doesn't actually launch it as far as I know (FCP2 crashes in classic anyway).

You only really need to keep a copy of your classic sys folder and move it over to your new Mac along with you version of FCP2 to allow this to happen. If all else fails you can contact Apple and they will send you a full FCP3 install disc if you buy a New G4 and can't install FCP2 on it to do a subsequent upgrade, one of the advantages of having your hardware/OS/application all from the same company

If you have another mac available you could just conect them with firewire and install it from the old one thorugh target mode.
