I am about to reformat my "60gig within firewire enclosure" to FAT32 format. I want to use it as a documents backup for a wintel box and, equally important, edit DV on my mac.

question is: does anyone have any realworld experience with FAT32, MacOS 10.2 and DV? And how do you feel about it?

I am on a Pismo Firewire so my spec is not that high to start with... but still, i'd like to know if the mac and fat32 hd will play nicely?

TIA

sorry about crosspost - but i need to make a quick decision.

I had posted a similar questions several weeks ago. I needed to bring Adobe Premiere projects from work (Windows environment) to my home (MACS ONLY). I'm using a LaCie 60GB firewire drive. Here was my experience:

1. Computers at work are Windows XP professional. They wouldn't format the hard drive as a 60GB FAT32, I used a Focus Enhancements Firestore unit to format the drive. The Windows computers would recognize it, but my Mac would not.

2. Finally read enough literature to figure out that Windows XP won't offer FAT32 as a format option if the partition you are formatting is over 32GB. In Windows XP I divided the drive into 2 equally sized partitions and formatted both as FAT32. Windows now recognizes two FAT32 partitions and my Mac's all mount 2 FAT32 drives when connected via Firewire.

3. What a pain in the A$$.

Hope you have luck with yours. Once I figured out how to get it to work, I haven't had any problems transferring projects.
