I have recorded a 30 minute audio file on to a CD which I plan to convert to an MP3 file. Due to its length, it will obviously be an extremely large file.
I would like to be able to share the file on my website. What are my options?
This is all brand new territory for me, so any suggestions/insight would be very appreciated, thank you.
P.S. - Perhaps a related question? Can someone explain how streaming audio is set up?

what's the content of the file?
if it's just speech, you should be able to compress it down so the file size is much smaller. try 48kbps, mono.
as for uploading it, you can just upload the file to your webspace the same as you'd upload an image or text file - it'll just take a lot longer to upload it.

? and if it is speech, you should cut it into pieces (intro, part I, conclusion, whatever) - if i'm visitor of your website, i would be very happy, if i shouldn't download the whole bunch, but can pick the pieces of cake i want ;-))
btw: if you use QTpro, you can use the mpeg4 sound algorithm AAC - from my personal reception, it's much better then mp3. compared to size of data.

I appreciate the suggestions, thank you. The audio file is a sermon, so compressing it down should definitely help. Can I go smaller than 48kbps mono without the quality suffering? Is there a minimum that you would recommend?
Does anyone know if there are any good "how-to" web sites out there that deals with streaming audio?
I know how to upload the file to my website, but my concern is that file will be so large, that people will not want to wait for it to download (especially those on dial-up) before they can begin listening to it.

step 1. purchase QTpro ;-)) (no, i'm not a apple salesman)
step2. cut a little piece of your file - for testing i#m sure you don't need the whole thing.
step 3: test different compressions; qtpro is very self explainatory (sorry, spelling??); as i wrote, i do like aac (mpeg4 audio which is used for steves keynotes streamings)
step4 find the compression you like - 48kb mono is a very goog sound quality - but what is "good"? if you listen to am-radio, the sound is much more "compressed". try it, step3.
step5 finally, when compressing your big file, click "prepare for interent streaming" this means, your sound file starts to play, after the first bytes were received 8the loading goes on, while your listener? eeh, listens. sorry, english is funny. no, my english is funny)

I guess I'm not the only one who wants a compressed sermon.
