I want to transfer my video 8 and Hi8 video tapes onto miniDV and my dilema is that the video 8 and Hi8 tapes are 120min whereas the minidv tapes are 60min [Panasonic makes a 80min tape (120min in lp mode)]. So my question is how much quality will be lost transferring the 120 minute video 8 and Hi8 tapes to a Panasonic 80 minute (120min LP) tape recording in LP mode which will give the 120 minutes I need and is there anything else I should be concerned about. Thanks in advance.
i'm not a technician, but as far as i know, the quality of video8 is lower then mini-dv longplay; anyhow: to copy your tapes means an internal re-compression which has allways losses...-
I wouldn't worry. A dv tape holds more than 10GB of data. that equates to more than 5GB for 1hr in long play.
Technically superior to DVD. I doubt you will notice much difference.
