I'm having troubles recording video from a VHS tape in the VCR to the tape on my Canon ZR50 Mini DV. I followed the instructions in the manual, but when I started recording when the camera was in VCR mode, It recorded nothing but black. I know it recorded something, but it's not recording any video from the tape....anybody have any ideas?

Thanx,
Omek

Wow I had this same issue with my friend's ZR10(?). It is a really wierd combination of buttons to press to make the camera record from the line-in.

Reread the book carefully, as it is confusing, but if I remember you put the cam in VCR mode, then press two buttons together (play & record??) and that puts it in paused record mode. Then you hit another button (pause maybe?) when you're ready to start recording.

You'll know if you did it correctly because whatever is playing from the VHS tape will appear on your camera's LCD. Also, try using the remote control because it has a LOT more buttons that are much easier to access than the ones on the side of the camera.

Ya I tried the remote. That's what I was using....I guess I just get lost when they say hit play and record. Are they talking about the VCR or the camera....Ahhhhh!!!! GRrrrr.... They just can't make things simple can they??

Ya, I figured that if it was working I'd see the video footage on the camera at the same time.....oh well, I'll keep trying...

Thanks,
Omek

Are you planning on importing this video into your computer? The Canons have a DV bridge mode so that you don't even have to record to tape. Just plug your VCR into your camera and then your firewire into your computer, turn on IN->DV (or something like that) mode, and voila!

That's nice to know, as I'm going to eventually buy/borrow a VCR to get the four or five VHS tapes I still have on VCD or something

That uh DV "bridge" thing isn't working. What am I doing wrong? I hooked the yellow and white cables to my VCR/TV and plugged it into my camera and plugged the camera into the computer using the firewire cable...... I can't import the video from the VHS tape to the computer either......grrrrr.....

This is getting very frustrating
