Mac Rumors thinks that Monday, April 7th, the first day of the National Association of Broadcasters Conference. New features expected are 24fps editing, support for FireWire 800, and possibly DV50, a higher DV standard rather than the current DV25 implementation.

Amazon. They like most others that I know have a zero return policy on opened software. However I thought for sure that it wouldn't be announced until this summer. Apple probably needs to get some revenue going for it's second quarter. After checking out the new features it seems the biggest addition is Soundtrack. It's not something I need now but it would be cool to have.
Maybe Microsoft isn't so far off with charging a monthly fee for software. Right now I'd rather spend the $20 a month than be 'sneaked' up on by unannounced upgrades. It seems a bit unethical on Apple's part.

Dude, I'm sorry you just got hosed on the upgrade, but it's not Apple's fault. They didn't sneak up on you. They announced a new version. It happens.
I hope you can soften the blow for yourself a bit, though. That definitely sucks. And FCP 4 looks pretty damn sweet.

I'm sure I'm not the only one. Wait till it happens to you...
I don't plan on whining to Amazon or Apple about it. However I do think Apple and other companies should give a heads up a month or two in advance. It seems only ethical in my book.

Yeah get on the phone or something. I'm sure talking to the right person would allow you to return the 3.0 upgrade and let them apply your funds for the 4.0 upgrade. As long as Amazon is keeping the sale it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

mathew_m,
I am sorry for you, but you really should have done a little more research before plopping down $1,000 for an application. Any of these reasons should have kept you from spending your money now:
- NAB is this week
- Final Cut Pro 3 came out sixteen months ago
- a visit to Think Secret shows a story dated March 21 with the title "Final Cut Pro 4 in pipeline; on tap with DVDSP 2 for NAB?"
If you bought Final Cut Pro 3 after April 6, Apple would have sent you Final Cut Pro 4 for $50. I'd recommend what the others said about trying to return the software, or call Apple and beg to qualify for the $50 upgrade. But if you can't, you really have no one to blame other than yourself - any bit of resarch at all would have made it obvious that FCP4 was coming very, very soon.
Having said that, I am EXTRAORDINARILY excited about the Final Cut Pro 4 and DVD Studio Pro 2 upgrades. They look fantastic! It's a good day to be a video editor!

I didn't spend $1,000, just $279 for the upgrade from 2.0. I would of waited but was all hyped up about getting my video production biz going again after a hiatus. Also my new iMac only boots into X (which is another issue )
I usually do more research but this was kind of blind. I know I don't have anyone to blame but myself. I'm just venting.
Anyway I have an email out to Amazon but I don't expect anything.

mathew_m,
I understand. If it makes you feel any better, Final Cut Pro 4 doesn't actually ship until June. A $400 upgrade for a Video Production biz three months from now shouldn't be too much of a problem, I wouldn't think? Just don't wait 18 months from now to get it

Actually that does make me feel a bit better. Apple has a way with introducing a product only to make you wait til it's out of date before it ships.
