I want to make a Quicktime movie of some photos in my iphoto (using iphoto2) library.

i want the pictures to repeat until the soundtrack ends.

i do not want or need to use more than one mp3 for the soundtrack.

i would like to be able to have a caption appear with each photo.

how on earth do i do this?

iphoto will export to quicktime, but if i set the qt movie to loop the photos, it starts the mp3 soundtrack again when the photos restart, so i never hear the whole thing.

i figured i could resolve this using imovie (2): i imported the 12 photos (5 seconds for each slide) into imovie, selected all and just copied the batch of pics a few times so they lasted the 12 minute duration of the mp3.

i then exported this project from imovie to qt. even at the 'full' quality export settings the resultant qt gives much poorer images than those in the qt created direct from iphoto. why?

also the qt i made in imovie is stupidly large - 200MB or so, compared to 2 to 3MB for the iphoto one.

how do i resolve this conundrum?

In Quicktime Pro you can copy a video track with pictures to the clip board then use Add Scaled to add the video track to an existing sound track. The pictures will be displayed once at a display time dependent on the length of the sound track.
For example, lets say you have a video track with 24 pictures and want to use a song that plays for 3 minutes. Copy the video track to the clip board, open the sound track and use Add Scaled from the Edit menu. This will add a video track to the sound track. The pictures will be displayed for 7.5 seconds each (180 seconds divided by 24) and the final picture display will end when the sound track finishes the song. Works fine for me.
