I want to shoot a project in widescreen but I don't see any cameras around within my price range that naitively shoot in 16:9. The current frontrunner is the Panasonic DVX-1000 for it's 24p capabilities, but it doesn't shoot in widescreen (maybe a stretched 4:3, but who uses that?)
Any suggestions?

Sony's DSR-PDX10 gets my vote for most bang for the buck in a 3chip, native 16X9 camcorder.
taken from here
scroll most the way down. A few other possibilities there also.

Wow. That looks like a real nice camera! And it would save us a bundle too. Where are there good hardware reviews to be found? I looked around at the obligatory sites and found very little.

Camcorder reviews seem hard to come by. I never have much luck. Cant help you there.

I have used the XL1 on a couple of products. It is a really nice camera, but at this point you can get better cameras for less money.
I'm following the lead boardsurfer gave me on the PDX10 and I found this site which has a great comparison of the visual quality of the PDX10 and the sony VX2000. If I were you I'd get a panasonic DVX100.

If you use FCP 3 then consider Panasonic in that the new standard from FCP 4 will held up with DVCPRO which comes on all the high end Panasonic cameras. Looking at DVCPRO there are good cameras to choose from. Giving you 16:9 and 4:2:2....
