How might I record myself talking into my internal microphone on a pb17....is there a program I need to get, or is the powerbook already equipped to convert input into an mp3 file? Thanx!

you'll need some audio program to record, i like Spark ME, it's pretty full-featured, and it's free (with registration).

so, record with your mic, save the file as aiff, put it into iTunes, and convert it to mp3.
