Greetings,
Since I got my new Powershot G3, I was wondering how come many camcorders are priced below the camera's price. Is there such a difference in quality, and what would be the difference between say a $500 or a $1,000 camcorder?
I notice that they have still picture mode as well. So, when should I use my camera and when should I use the camcorder for still pictures?
I would be using the camcorder for family movies and perhaps short amateur moves.

You can use your camcorder for stills any time you want a low res picture.
$500 vs $1000 - sometimes nothing, sometimes picture quality. Many $500 camcorders have a hard time in low light. Low light covers more situations than you'd think - indoors is practically guaranteed to be low light on some of the cameras.
I just bought a Sony TRV-19 ($599). I'm very happy with it.

You should be happy to have the G3 - stills from even the most expensive camcorders are still pretty lousy, and would be no comparison to a still from a G3.

Oh, I am!- I haven't even had time to go over all its features and capabilities yet. But, I want a camcorder for movies, and I'm not quite sure how camcorders compare to cameras in resolution, quality, capabilities and so forth yet.
