i am still having trouble accessing another user's iTunes files. i can see the directory pop up, but when i try to access the tunes, it flips back to the main directory (library) on my computer. we have checked permissions, sharing, iTunes sharing, etc. on both machines, but nothing seems to work.

any ideas?

this is weird, i mean, it is supposed to just read the other person's iTunes library, but it does not work as advertised.

i thought it was me at first, but when my co-worker said something about it, that is when we checked our settings and did some more intensive inspection of our sharing preferences.

according to apple, it is just supposed to work. go figure?

I had a similar problem. Turning off the OS X firewall in the Sharing preferences panel of the it Tunes4 'server' fixed the issue. I have not yet taken the time to find out what port iTunes uses so that I can later go back and restart the firewall.
Hope it works for you too.

Yeah, it's a known issue. For one reason or another, Apple screwed up the proxy use woth all their apps since 10.2. Same for Backup via .mac, iCal, etc... It's a pain to have to turn off your proxy each time you want to share though... Let's hope they fix it before 10.3.
