Can anyone recommend the best way of getting output from a SCART equipped VHS recorder into FCP?

I'm considering purchasing a system to transfer VHS onto DVD and want to retain as high a quality as possible.

Links please.

Thanks!

it's very very very unlikely you'll get a device with a scart input. most units are composite and s-video only (easier to make them for both PAL and NTSC countries then - scart's a european thing only). i doubt you'd notice that much difference between scart and s-video though. you can get a small scart adapter that turns the scart socket on your vcr to one with 3 RCA/phono outputs (audio and video) and an s-video socket. you can pick these up for about £5.

as for a system to do it.. i have a canopus advc-100. fantastic machine, though a little on the pricey side. (£270 or so in the UK)

if you have a tower with PCI capability you can pick up an internal version for a lot cheaper..
