Quick question....

Will all DVD movies burn't using Apple's superdrive work on any DVD player? I seem to remember reading that they might not but can't recall if the problem was limited to burning DVDs of the two formats rather than reading them.

Thanks,

Rohan

PS - Does anyone know off hand - If I took a movie, the feature of which was 4Gb and reduced the VIDEO_TS folder to 650 Mb (I know the quality would be awful in comparison). Would the quality compare to a video CD?

Any idea, I would appreciate them....

It sounds like you're trying to pirate DVDs.

DVD-R disks almost always play in home players. DVD+Rs usually do, but have a higher instance of incompatibility.

DVD-R's (the type of discs that the superdrive burns) are compatible with about 85%-90% of current DVD players. this number is increasing all the time, as the DVD-R format is now rapidly taking off, just like CD-R was a few years back.

as for your other question.. don't bother. VCD quality is average at best, at the standard VCD resolution. (352 x 240) - it's going to be twice as bad at DVD resolution (720 x 480).

The point is more whether 4x as bad would be all that terrible compared to VCDs. It would be great to be able to take 20 DVDs on a trip where quality isn't so important and not have to worry about your battery.

As for whether I am pirating or not, I will ignore that point as aside of anything else - it is none of your business. I do wish everyone at these forums would stop acting in such a parental/aggressive way.

That said, thanks for the reply to all of you....

hmm, i guess so.

what you could do is rip the files and convert them to VCD resolution/bitrate, and put them on a DVD anyway. DVD accepts mpeg-1 files at 352 x 240, with 48000kHz audio. The quality won't be that great, but it would still be a lot better than if you used 720 x 480 resolution.

Sure it's our business. If it's piracy you're talking about you aren't allowed to be talking about it here.
