Audio & Video CD Burn Craps Out

Trying to burn an audio CD with iTunes 4 and the burn stops with about 2 min left and just hangs.
Burning photo CD with iPhoto 2.0 I get an error message before the burn completes.
The audio burn is really strange because it worked just the other day.
G4 powerbook 400
OS 10.2.6
QPS firewire external CDRW
