I have noticed a new problem in iMovie footage lately, defenitely since I upgraded to iMovie 3. I don't believe I have seen this at all in iMovie 2. Electronic sounding beeps (don't know how else to describe it) appear periodically in my footage. There is no affect seen in the video at the same point in time as the beep, it seems only an audio blip of some sort.

Normally it is not a problem as I edit heavily and can delete segments containing the beeps. However, I have recently tried making DVD compilations of Scooby episodes and there seems to be no way of deleting the beeps without causing either an audio or video disruption. I can't simply chop out a few pieces and have it still play smoothly.

I am using a Canon Optura 100MC. I reviewed DV tapes to rule out that the beeps are on the DV tapes and caused by the camera. They are not. I have also been using brand new tapes to rule out issues of worn or damaged tape. So either the beeps are introduced by a fault in the camera when downloading, which I doubt. Or it is an artifact of iMovie (more likely). I have been shooting in 12 bit audio, but like I said I have gone almost a year without this issue.

Has anyone experienced this small yet very annoying problem?

thanks

i have. never when using my canopus ADVC-100 DV bridge, but a few times when using my dad's and my girlfriend's DV cams. (dad has a panasonic, girlfriend has a canon).

there is a solution to it..

use imovie to extract the audio.

open up the extracted audio in a sound editor, and edit it. i often find selecting the beep, then silencing it out, and pasting over with the sound from the other channel, works fine. once you're done, save the audio and go back into imovie, making sure you uncheck the original audio checkbox in the timeline.

whatever you do though, don't just select the beep and delete it, because it will result in your audio being out of sync.

while you may not be able to remove the noise completely, at the worst you'll be left with a tiny click or pop, which sounds a lot better than the annoying beep!

(p.s. i did actually get this problem in iMovie 2 a couple of times..)

in case of accidental ingestion, consult a mortician.
