Hello,
I just made a copy of a short dvd. I was given all the files from a dvd (700Mb) which consisted of IFO, BUP and VOB files.
I put them into a folder named VIDEO_TS, as I've seen on other discs, and copied that folder to a blank dvd using toast.
If I put the disc into the mac, opened dvdplayer but it didn't autostart playing, despite running dvdplayer. I then used file-open-video_ts to open the file, and hit the play button on the player control. This started the file playing. I know that the data is good.
However, when I put the disc into my stand-alone dvd player, it wouldn't do anything and just spat the disc back out.
Am I missing something about how dvd's work, and is there some sort of file that I needed to make it autorun.
Thanks,
J.

did you just drag your VIDEO_TS folder into toast?
if so.. that's where you've gone wrong.
in the finder, create another folder, call it "MY_DVD_NAME".
drag your VIDEO_TS folder into this one.
then, drag MY_DVD_NAME into toast.
(obviously you can change MY_DVD_NAME to anything you like. this will be the name of the disc when you put it back in your mac or any other computer. the name should be all in capitals, with underscores between words. i think there's a character limit, but i could be wrong.. try keeping it to 12 or so characters.)

Yes, dragging the vidio_ts folder to toast is exactly what I did. Although I did rename the disk from within toast so that it shows up with the appropriate name when I put the disk in the computer.
Is there a difference between having a name for the folder that contains the video_ts folder, and naming the disk by just altering the "untitled CD" line within toast to be the name that you want?
Thanks,
J.

it's a disc format issue. Toast burns by default data discs in the format of Mac/PC hybrid (which is HFS+ mixed with something, probably FAT32). I believe DVDs use UFS or some subset of that. If you tell Toast to burn a video DVD in the Other menu you're more likely to get a correct disc.

could be, but i think the problem was, he dragged the VIDEO_TS folder from the finder into toast.
doing this means that the root directory on the DVD contains the .ifo, .bup, .vob etc files, which is incorrect. you actually need to create a VIDEO_TS folder on the disc. (see my post)
