I've got an old GlobalVillage Video In USB box that I'd like to use with my PowerBook. I can reboot into 9 and use it, but I hate booting into 9.

It has Nogatech's USBVision chip in it. Is there a driver that can run this thing on OS X? I noticed that XLR8's InterView has the same chip and I tried its drivers, but they don't work. I tried the IOExperts driver, but it's not supported and won't install.

I found the USBVision for Linux project page. Would there be any way of recompiling that for OS X? I'm familiar enough with Linux and getting software to compile, but I know nothing about drivers and kernel mods.

Any suggestions?

You don't need to make a kernel extension in OS X - you need to make a QuickTime vDig.

http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/...DigComp.16.htm

Then your video capture device becomes accessible to any QuickTime app that uses the Sequence Grabber (e.g. HackTV, BTV etc..)

you got me revved up to try my Belkin USB thing again after a long hiatus. I installed v2.1 of the InterView software, then uninstalled it and tried something for microscopes called USBShot, and then the ioexperts driver. nothing worked. So I would like to add that I am also interested in getting something to work, and I also don't know how to compile a QT Sequence Grabber driver.

PS, my Belkin doesn't even work in 9. it worked once, barely, under 9.0.4 I think. But I'm not installing 9.0.4 just for this

Yeah, a good driver would be really nice. I *might* look into writing one this summer. Unfortunately, right now my Objective-C/Cocoa knowledge doesn't go much beyond "Hello, World!" but I'm hoping I'll have some time to learn. I've always wanted to know how to write drivers, maybe this is a good starting point

If I get anywhere, I'll be sure to let you guys know... don't count on anything though.

here are the docs:

http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/...deoDigComp.htm

I should imagine this is quite a hard thing to do though.
