I have just made a nice 7:30 minute-film in iMovie with nice music, good transitions ... I promissed my family they would see the "premiere" tomorrow evening and ... boom. "iMovie unexpectedly quit" ... now it is impossible to go back to my project.
I have iMovie 3.03, the latest quicktime, the lastest Mac OS ... a dual processor ... I am just upset.
This is not the first time this happens. This time I learnd the lesson. iMovie is *NOT* reliable, I will *NEVER* make another "long" movie on it.

perhaps you should also learn the lesson "save your work regularly"..

in case of accidental ingestion, consult a mortician.

Works fine for me on an iBook 500 and an iMac DVSE 400.
Not fast, mind you, but it works fine. I've made 30 min. movies with no problem other than the expected slowness.

Mark : I save my work about every minute. I did not loose any part of my movie. My project cannot be opened anymore by iMovie. it crashes immediately when I open it.

that's weird, i've always been able to open files after a crash (which, incidentally, hasn't been very often).
have you tried opening up the imovie reference file in quicktime? it'll be located in whatever folder you started your imovie project in, and it'll have the same filename as the folder (IE, myimovieproject.mov)

Have you upgraded to v. 3.03? That's supposedly to be more stable.
I just finished three 80+ minute projects with 20 chapter markers or so in each one and had not a problem.
iDVD is another matter....

That is remarkable. I couldnt even get a 3 minute slide show back to tape this weekend without crashing and spitting and cursing. What gives?

Open the iMovieproj file in bbedit (or another text editor). Find the line that says "Playhead=" and change whatever number is there to a "1" and save. Then try reopening your iMovie project.
