how can I cheaply import video to my eMac with highest quality

With one of these (no mention of macs, but I heard they work) or these or, one of these.

If you are going to spend a couple hundred dollars anyway, I think it makes more sense to get a digital camcorder that has an analog->DV converter built in. That way you can convert your old video, and shoot your own DV footage

while a camera might seem like a good idea, what if you really don't need it? i mean, the cheapest fw/dv converter is about $200. what's the cheapest miniDV came with pass-through features? about $400? right there, you're talking twice as much money.

true, it just seems hard to justify spending $200+ just to convert analog video, atleast the camcorder provides something to play with

I already have a DV camera just doesn't allow conversion without going to tape first

So go to tape, I doubt you'd lose quality off VHS. Thats what I'd do. I wouldn't spend $200 on a converter when you KNOW youre next camera will have that built in.
