Drum machine program?

So I'm trying to make simple drum tracks that don't sound cheesy. I got "Doggiebox", and it has great samples of real drums, but the implementation of trying to lay them down is kind of kludgy (not precise enough, takes a lot of trial and error to make it sound right).
I'd love to find a program that allows me to bind particular samples, say, "bass drum hit" and "snare hit", to keystrokes, and just tap it out as I'm recording. Basically, a drum pad program. Any ideas? Thanks!

I dont fully understand your question but if you would like to have proffesional drums you could get yourself a digital drum set.... (you could check out www.yamaha.com) but I am not sure if that is what you wanted to know

I know exactly what you are saying, and no I dont think its possible. I ended up getting a set of yamaha digital drums cause doggiebox was too damn hard for me to get synced well.

i think a good option for doing stuff like this is to get some sort of midi pad triggers, hooked up to either internal sound source, or an external one, and record in the computer. it would be a pain in the ass trying to hit keys on your keyboard to play drums, especially if you are a drummer.
i've recorded drums using my midi controller keyboard -->midi interface-->sampler-->multitrack (protools/digital performer). then i go in, and fix all my mistakes, because i am NO drummer!

This is an area that I am very interested in. Do you gusy have any ideas on where I could go to get more info on this type of thing?
I have no idea how to even go about hooking up a keyboard to my computer to do midi input. What do you need hardware wise? Software wise?
I've been able to go into my computer with my Zoom 505, right into the in port on my g4, but I don't know how to get a drum track down. I've been playing with the reason demo, and I can sort of work that drum machine thing, but its time consuming, and I'm not very good at it.
I really liked fruity loops for windows. Anyone know of a similar app?

www.osxaudio.com has all the info you need.
Midi-keyboard, I have an Oxygen 8, you just install the driver, plug it into USB. This unit already has the midi controller built in. I didn't (and still don't) know much about it, that's why I chose that one.
www.ableton.com, get the Live demo.
