I read somewhere that some groups are rejecting the Apple Music Store on the basis of the Music Store selling singles. RedHot Chillis and Metallica were a couple of the bands named. The artists claim that the 12-15 song set distributed in 'album' should be treated as creative and artistic piece. I think they are being uptight and pretentious for sake of it - they have rebel written all over them.

It is my opinion that sets of songs collected into an album came about because of the distribution logistics and what medium proved common and sellable - 8track, casette, vinyl album, cd and such.
Artists often talk about productions of albums and decisions to put a song on a record are often driven by just filling the album - consumers do not want fillers - ( something just to occupy the space ).

The industry is on the cusp of change and distribution electronically is going to happen. They even cited that unpopular songs on the album do not get heard if the only popular single were sold - well duh! consumers don't want the filler anyway. Do not make consumers buy krap just to get the good stuff. Similar to the TV shopping where they sell 10 knives - one really good knife and nine krappy knives. The name-brand one good knife normally cost 20 bucks - the sell the set for 50$ and claim the each knife costs only 5 bucks a piece - "Name-brand knife for only 5$" - is that so? - then sell me the name brand knife for 5$ - idiot. The 9 krappy knives cost are worth about 1$ a piece so the math 20$ + 9$ = 29$ - why 50$ fo rthe set ? so they can say "Name-brand knife for only 5$" - its a joke!

These musicians are fighting a revolution in distribution just to fight about it - gain publicity, greed - I don't know.
I can understand an artistic body of work - such as a book - but if the consumer would like to read only chapter 7 of 'MobyDick' why should the author care.? It is the consumer's loss that they do not get context - but it is the consumer's decision.
The answer is simple - make good music - be artistic - it will sell!

This is the crap that artists try to push on the general public. They feed us crap and tell us it's chocolate...

Why should they give a F@#$??

Why can't they just be happy making music? So the F@#$ what if I only buy one of their songs. Lord knows some of their albums only have one or two good songs.

Why should I have to pay for songs I don't like?

Here we go again.
Metallica fighting the revolution.
Those greedy, **** sucking idiots. They'd actually make more if they just relaxed and quit fighting the movement.

That band is a bunch of have beens, filled with one never will be.

This is a good time for THIS funny link.
A little dated, but still great.

The music industry has been selling singles for decades. I guess younger folks today don't know what a 45 was?

Come to think of it...although I've never seen one, aren't there CD singles?

The "artists" are just upset over us not having to buy all the tracks on their latest opus. Actually, if they produce an "opus" we usually want all of it. But for a regular album, I for one, usually don't care for the "hits" and would rather buy only the ones that move me in some way. That's usually not the "popular" track(s).

Just one mook's opinion.

Screw Metallica, again.

Oh and I loved that Canadian band's hoax a few weeks ago about Metallica copyrighting two chords. Great stuff.

Yes, there certainly are CD singles.
They're not very popular anymore, unfortunately.
