Hey, I'm having real problems with my input mic being very quiet. I have the mic input all the way up in preferences, and I'm using a cheap audio mic through an imic. Do I need to use some sort of preamp? Any ideas of something really cheap I can use, or may already own?

thanks

iMic is the worst peripheral for the mac that I've ever used. Some questions: what app are you using to record with? Where exactly are you increasing the inpput gain?

input: system prefs, sound, input, input volume. I've used cacophony and Spark ME to record before, and always have to boost the volume after the fact. However, this post was prompted by trying ichat AV, where I have to scream to get the other person to hear me. Unfortunately I don't really have a choice with the imic, seeing as I have no mic input (933 G4) Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Stupid question: Is the gain switch on the iMic unit itself flipped toward the speaker icon? If not, it's no wonder you have to scream because the microphone is not being amplified.
