I want to bring some movies I took with my digital camera to my DVD player.
I can't convert them to MPEG 1 VCD using Quicktime Pro because the files are multiplexed. How can I demux those MPEG 1 muxed files? I searched Macupdate, but didn't find any appropiate software...

does your camera record in mpeg-1 natively? If it does, you can most likey just drop that file into toast VCD, and it will convert it for you. However, you can also use this to demux your file:

BBDemux will demux mpeg-1 to separate audio and video tracks. You will then have to convert the sound track to a non-mpeg format (like AIFF or Wave) or QT will not allow you to copy it to the clipboard. Once it has been converted copy to clipboard and use Add Scaled to add the sound to the video.

Technically, you should add the video to the sound. To do it that way you first have to encode the mpeg video track to some intermediary format like NONE or Component Video because QT,as with the sound, will not let you copy the mpeg video to the clipboard. Once it is in the intermediate format you can copy it to the clipboard, use Add Scaled to add it to the sound track, and then save as a self-contained Quicktime file. At that point you can use whatever application you need to convert it to a VCD.
You can find BBDemux via versiontracker. Most folks can use iTunes to convert the mpeg sound to AIFF but if you have problems doing it you could also use SoundApp. It is available at

I'm not really sure what it is you're asking. If you want to just join clips together, you can use mpgtxwrap and the drag the resulting mpeg into Toast to burn a VCD.

If you want to do anything to the files (transitions, fades, text, etc), you'll need to do the following:

1) demux the mpg in something like mpgtxwrap
2) Drag the resulting .mp2 into itunes and convert it. when you drag to the library, it will simply copy. Select the .mp2 in itunes and click advanced>convert to whatever. Aiff will probably do (you can change these defaults in the prefs)
3) right-click on the converted file and select "show song file." Drag this somewhere you'll remember. Your project folder, for instance.
4) Use QT Pro to import the .m1v (video) file.
5) Export the video file as whatever you want. If you're going to iMovie, export it as DV
6) After that's done, open the exported file in QT Pro again, hit edit>select all. Leave that for now. Don't mess with it.
7) Open the audio file in Quicktime. Hit edit>select all. Then Edit>copy
8) Go back to the video file, and with everything in it still selected, hit edit>add scaled. That will get the audio and video back together.
9) With this newly complete file, hit file>export and export as DV again. If there's an option for allowing the video to passthrough, select it. You just need to get the audio in place.
10) When all of that's done, you'll have a DV file for iMovie.

Cheers
Scott
