what version of imovie are you using? Are you sure your camera is supported? Have you successfully exported in the past?

Substantive information about your configuration and a step-by-step would really help the people here try to help you.

The camera is supported, I have one. However, I've never tried to export back.

because i've heard about so much drama. and since i'm using an old imac dv 400 mhz, I can't afford to slow up my machine anymore.

400 mhz 320 mb ram
imovie 2.1.2
os X 10.2.2

Im sorry, but I really have no idea what you were just trying to say. First off though, you are running a wierd OS version. I would recommend atleast 10.2.3, as that was a very stable release. I would also upgrade to imovie 3. All the stability issues have pretty much been fixed with 3.03, and it has a lot of nice features. I would also beef up your ram.

It's one of the settings on the camera. I have a TRV30 and it took me about 10 tries fiddling with settings on the camera and in iMovie to get it to work right. I wish I would've written it down because now I can't remember it which sucks for next time!
