Setting up FCP4 on my 17inch powerbook. Capture settings recognizes my Canon GL2 as "DM-GL2 using NTSC". Is that they way it should be? What the heck does "DM" stand for? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what that is, but your .settings should be DV NTSC and firewire for device control.

Well, it's kinda strange but it does say "DM-GL2 using NTSC". I have DVI checked the fcp qualification page and it said Firewire Basic, so i am using that.

Here's the summary of my capture presets...

using DV Video for video input
DM-GL2 using NTSC
29.97 frames per second
DV/DVCPRO-NTSC at Best quality
24 bits per pixel

720 by 480

Using DV Audio for audio input
Input: First 2 channels
Rate: 48kHz
Speaker: off
Volume: 100, gain: 0

So everything seems to be set for DV Video work...? It's just that darn"DM-GL2" part that has me worried that I am going to do a lot of work that will look fine until I export to my camera...

Isn't that just the full name of the camera?

I seem to remember my XM1 (Euro version of the GL1) was called DM-XM1 on the front of the manual... FWIW.
