I am producing an iMovie sequence that will eventually be projected from a PC via PowerPoint. Which will be safest choice of codec to use/ Assume that the Wintel will have quicktime installed. TIA.

[edit] Also, what sound compression scheme will be 'safe' for the pc?

I don't know if PowerPoint will import QuickTime movies. You could try exporting to AVI.

There's no problem there. Already done it. And it plays quite smoothly under X. Not like older versions.

Sorry for the confusion:
Making the movie on the Mac (iMovie),
PowerPoint-ing on the Mac.

Then CD-ROMming to the PC where I hope it'll work.

OH. Unless you mean that PPT on Wintel may not be Quicktime friendly at all!?

I've heard that winPPT has become less and less MOV-compatible with each version. What version will it be? and does the movie need sound?

This sounds like the beginning of bad news. I suspect it will the office version (windows) 2000 or later. And yes, sound is going to be necessary. I'll do tests this weekend at home (office is a pc/smoke free environment .)

I'll export the movie as QT and AVI. I guess I'll just have to try all the codecs to see what will give me best results.

Not a comprehensive test. But the cinepak encoder seems to work well.
